A downloadable game for Windows and Linux

VOID SCAVENGER is a space-themed rouge-like focused on fast-paced flight and first-person gameplay. You, the LAST HUMAN alive, are tasked with traveling an evil alien empire, spanning the known universe, hopping sector to sector as eviscerate the alien menace. Along the way, you must rid alien-infested space stations of their inhabitants, all the while scavenging the confines for esoteric alien technology to augment your ship. Between each station, the alien menace relentlessly hunts you down, thirsty for your rare human blood. As such, you must use your ace piloting to navigate the treacherous expanse of the void... How long will you survive?

DEVELOPMENT:

Void Scavenger is a completely free and open source game developed in C using a custom engine and the MIT license. As such, you are free, and even encouraged to inspect and modify the game as you wish. The game's source code can be found on our Github page.

Install instructions

LINUX:

  • Download the "VS_linux.zip" file and extract the game files to the location of your choice
  • To start the game, run the "run.sh" script located in the VS_linux folder. This can be done multiple ways. Two possible ways are included below:
    • Depending on your system, you can right click the "run.sh" file and choose the option "run as executable" option, or you can double click the file normally and select the "run as executable" option if a prompt arises
    • From inside the terminal, navigate the current directory to be VS_linux and run the command "./run.sh"

WINDOWS:

  • Download the "VS_windows.zip" file and extract the game files to the location of your choice
  • Run the "VS.exe" program inside VS_windows

I liked the concept quite a bit. It would be interesting to see this get flushed out with some more in-depth level design and/or space exploration.

Gotta say though, I absolutely hated how the ship controlled. The vertical axis felt strange, and the ship steering as a whole felt really slippery. Overall the ship was very difficult to control in my opinion.

An intriguing mix of Spaceflight and FPS raiding! Kind of barebones but I look forward to seeing this take shape.
